Wi-Fi, Bluetooth LE, Thread and the device-side AI are integrated into a single chip, and can utilize existing software and tools, targeting billions of smart devices that can run for several years on available batteries.

Oslo, Norway, November 3, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Global leader in low-power wireless solutions, Nordic Sem, announces the launch of the nRF71 series of ultra-low power system-on-chips (SoCs) today. These SoCs integrate ultra-low power __BJWKEEP_00007® __BJWKEEP_00008® Low Energy ( LE ), __BJWKEEP_00010® technologies with edge computing capabilities into a single chip.

Ultra-low power design, software, and tools established in the Bluetooth LE domain based on Nordic, result in the standby power consumption of the nRF71 series being up to 20 times lower than that of the current generation nRF70 series Wi-Fi products.

The company stated that this improvement in energy efficiency is expected to unlock new possibilities for developers of devices powered by Wi-Fi batteries, with application scenarios including smart homes, wearable devices, and the industrial Internet of Things.

Nordic Sem Token Issuance nductor Wi-Fi and Vice President of Power Management Kjetil Holstad stated: "Edge AI will become a part of every connected device, but for devices that rely on batteries to operate, Wi-Fi has always required them to bear an unaffordable power consumption budget. With the nRF71 series, Nordic has eliminated this barrier. We are bringing Wi-Fi and edge AI to the same ultra-low power platform and tools that developers have come to trust for Bluetooth LE, so the next generation of smart products can connect to any network, make decisions at the device level, and still rely on batteries to operate for several years."

The edge AI and the complete application run on a single chip.

Now, edge computing AI inference can be run directly on a single chip, without the need for an external AI processor. As a result, devices respond faster, consume less power, and require fewer components. With the integrated Axon neural processing units, functions such as keyword recognition, anomaly detection, and image classification can be implemented on battery-powered devices using the nRF71 series; these units run machine learning models 10 to 17 times faster than using 256 individual MHz Arm ® Cortex ®- M33 processors. The nRF71 series can also run ultra-small AI models, which developers can build using the Nordic's Neuton software based on their own data. This is particularly ideal for scenarios where edge AI operations are to be performed solely on the processor.

From Axon NPU and Neuton software, to the aerial model updates conducted through nRF and Cloud, Nordic is bringing edge AI technology into battery-powered Wi-Fi devices, enabling applications, wireless connections, and AI to all run on a single chip.

Battery-powered for smart homes, security, and industrial Internet of Things Wi-Fi

With the nRF71 series, battery-powered smart home hubs, Matter bridges, or Thread edge routers can now all operate on a single chip Wi-Fi, Thread, and Bluetooth LE; smart door locks, security panels, wearable devices, and industrial sensors that support Matter can also achieve the same functionality. This is possible because these products are equipped with two sets of independent radios and separate radio frequency and processing modules: one set is Wi-Fi radios, and the other set consists of the latest generation of nRF54 series wireless SoC 2.4 GHz multi-protocol radios. The two sets of radios can receive simultaneously, allowing devices to maintain connectivity with the cloud Wi-Fi while monitoring Bluetooth LE or Thread traffic, without requiring either protocol to wait for the other to complete.

nRF71 series, with the first batch being SoC, followed by nRF7120 and nRF7120E. nRF7120 offers dual-band support, while Wi-Fi adds triple-band capability. nRF7120E builds upon this by incorporating 6E technology and is equipped with AI for hardware-accelerated edge processing. Both products come with 4 MB chips of non-volatile memory and 1 MB that is accessible to users.

To be exhibited at Electronica.

Nordic will showcase the nRF71 series at this year's Electronica exhibition, which includes a Nordic brand module. Their booth is located at Hall C6, Booth No. 159.

Supply Situation

The nRF71 series is currently being sampled to some customers. Developers can contact the local Nordic sales representatives to inquire about supply availability.
