Seattle, November 4th / PRNewswire / -- Boeing (NYSE : BA ) and Avolon announced today that the aircraft leasing company has finally finalized an order for 140 737-10 aircraft. This is the largest 737 MAX order ever placed by a leasing company, and it also raises the number of outstanding orders for Avolon to over 240 aircraft.
Since 2026, leasing companies have placed firm orders for over 230 Boeing 737-10 aircraft, which is five times the backlog of orders for the large 737 MAX model that leasing companies had at the end of 2025.
With the 737-10, Avolon can meet the strong market demand for larger single-aisle aircraft and take advantage of the flexibility of the 737 series models.

Avolon CEO Andy Cronin stated: "We continue to see strong demand for new, advanced aircraft, and this order further strengthens our long-term delivery pipeline. The 737-10 combines excellent economics with the capacity that airlines increasingly require, making it one of the most attractive models in its class. This agreement enhances our ability to support airlines' growth and fleet renewal throughout the next decade, while also further solidifying our long-standing partnership with Boeing."
Boeing stated that the 737 has a large customer base and lower operating costs, making it a cornerstone of the fleets of most leasing companies, accounting for about 30% of all financed aircraft.
Boeing's Senior Vice President of Commercial Sales and Marketing, Brad McMullen, stated: "Boeing's continuously growing and diversified 737 MAX fleet enables our airline customers to update their fleets with aircraft that reduce emissions and operating costs, improve route economics, and support long-term sustainable development goals. As the demand for long-distance travel is expected to remain strong, we are ready to support leasing companies in expanding their single-aisle fleets with highly fuel-efficient aircraft capable of operating on a variety of routes."
The 737-10 boasts the best single-seat economy among all single-aisle aircraft. This model can carry up to 230 passengers and has a range of 3,100 nautical miles (5,740 kilometers).
In the next 20 years, passenger traffic is expected to grow by 4% annually, which is driving leasing companies to expand their configuration of single-aisle aircraft models. Leasing companies have already ordered over 1,450 737 MAX aircraft, accounting for about 20% of Boeing's backlogged orders.
