Otis will provide all 266 elevators and escalators for this 117-story super-tall building in China.
Shanghai, November 6, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Otis ( NYSE : OTIS ), a globally leading company in elevator and escalator manufacturing, installation, maintenance, and modernization, announced that with two Otis elevators located in the 117 Tower in Tianjin, China, the company has officially been awarded the Guinness World Record title for "Elevator with the Highest Height in a Building".

These two record-breaking Otis SkyRise ® elevators serve buildings up to 597.2 meters high, providing reliable and smooth riding experiences for visitors to the observation decks through precision engineering and intelligent connectivity. As the sole supplier of elevators and escalators for Tianjin 117, Otis will provide 266 units of equipment for this building and will also offer professional on-site support to facilitate the installation at this record-breaking height.
Oasis Chairman, CEO, and President Judy Marks stated: "Super-tall buildings represent the achievements that can be made through ambition, creativity, and engineering prowess, and they become iconic features of the cities in which they are located. The Tianjin 117 has been recognized by Guinness World Records, demonstrating Oasis' advanced high-rise elevator technology as well as the professional level of its installation and maintenance teams. I visited the site during the construction of the building, and I am extremely proud to see this record achievement and this honor."
Sally Loh, President of Otis Greater China, stated: "Super-tall buildings rely heavily on excellent vertical transportation systems. Tianjin 117 demonstrates the results that can be achieved by combining Otis' leading advantages in engineering, design, and manufacturing with first-class on-site execution. We are proud to co-create a new world record with Tianjin 117 – while pushing the boundaries of what is possible in the industry, we also deliver the most important values: safety, reliability, and efficiency."
What is Tianjin 117?
Tianjin 117 is a super-tall building that, upon completion, is expected to have the highest occupied floor in China, as well as the fastest elevators within the building. The project is scheduled to be finished by the end of 2027 and serves as a showcase for advanced structural engineering and elevator technology.
What are the unique features of super high-rise elevators?
Aos said that these record-breaking SkyRise elevators are designed to provide riding comfort during high-speed, long-distance operations:
- Soundproof carriages are used, and aerodynamic design, computational fluid dynamics simulation, and wind tunnel testing are employed to minimize wind noise as much as possible, as well as to manage the effects of air pressure changes during high-speed operation.
- Otis SkyMotion ® hosts, control systems, and ultra-high-strength steel cables provide the power and precision required to withstand the forces generated by heavy loads operating at speeds necessary for super-tall buildings. Otis ReGen drive technology can recapture the energy produced by braking and return it to the building's electrical grid.
- Interconnected technologies, including Otis Panorama Elevator Management System and Otis ONE ® Connected Services Solution, can provide real-time elevator monitoring, passenger flow management, as well as data-driven proactive maintenance to achieve optimal performance and extended uptime.
What other equipment does Aosai install in Tianjin 117?
Among the 266 units being installed by Otis at Tianjin 117, the record-breaking elevators are just a part of it. The rest also include SkyRise ® and Gen3 ® elevators, Otis Link commercial escalators, as well as heavy-duty public escalators. The Tianjin 117 project is also expected to set several Otis records:
- 50 Otis SkyRise double-deck elevators, as well as 3 Otis SkyRise super double-deck elevators, will make this project the one with the largest number of Otis double-deck elevators in a single building.
- The maximum operating speed of these three super double-deck elevators can reach 10 meters per second, with a lifting height of up to 463 meters, making them the fastest and highest-lifting OTEC super double-deck elevators in the world.
- Two of the double-deck elevators have a maximum operating speed of up to 12 meters per second, making them the fastest elevators in Otis' product portfolio.
A double-deck car elevator consists of two carriages stacked one on top of the other within the same shaft, allowing a single elevator to serve adjacent floors, thereby reducing the space occupied by the elevator's core structure. A super double-deck car elevator allows for adjustment of the distance between the two carriages to accommodate different floor heights within a building.
Otis stated that more than 200 Otis professionals have participated in this project. While accelerating the construction progress, the project places extremely high demands on collaborative efforts, execution discipline, as well as safety and quality during the construction process.
According to Otis, not long before obtaining the Guinness World Record title, the Vertical Urbanization Committee (Council on Vertical Urbanism) certified that the elevator at Tianjin 117 would become the tallest elevator in the world. The committee also certified that Tianjin 117 would have the highest floor in China that is used by people.
