Justin Sun Expands USDD to Ethereum as Stablecoin Market Hits $2.5 Trillion

  • USDD launched natively on Ethereum with 12% APY rewards and PSM support for stablecoin swaps.
  • Collateral ratio is 204.5% but heavily tied to TRX, creating potential risks.
  • Tether remains dominant, though new rivals and regulatory frameworks are expanding competition.

Justin Sun’s USDD stablecoin has officially expanded to Ethereum, just as the network’s total stablecoin supply climbed past $165 billion. The rollout introduced a Peg Stability Module (PSM), enabling seamless swaps with USDT and USDC, while offering up to 12% APY rewards for early adopters. Though still small compared to Tether’s $169 billion dominance, USDD’s entry signals fresh competition in the $2.5 trillion stablecoin sector.

USDD Yield Incentives and Ethereum Expansion

Originally launched on TRON, USDD is an overcollateralized algorithmic stablecoin designed to maintain a dollar peg while offering high yields. Its Ethereum contract went live on September 8 after a CertiK audit, with the PSM ensuring better liquidity through 1:1 swaps with USDT and USDC. To attract adoption, an airdrop campaign launched September 9, offering 12% APY yields that gradually taper to 6% as adoption scales. Rewards are distributed continuously and claimable every eight hours via the Merkl Dashboard.

USDD Stability, Collateral Ratio, and Risks

At launch, USDD reported a collateral ratio of 204.5%, mainly backed by TRX after Justin Sun withdrew $726 million in Bitcoin collateral in August. While this structure aims to reduce destabilization risk, USDD has faced stress before—falling to $0.983 during Terra’s 2022 collapse and $0.97 during the FTX meltdown. These dips highlight its vulnerability despite collateral protections.

Tether Dominance and Expanding Stablecoin Competition

Tether continues to dominate the market, with TRON alone processing $23–25 billion in daily USDT transfers versus $20 billion on Ethereum. TRON’s USDT supply exceeds $80 billion, and Binance controls $44 billion in stablecoins, two-thirds of its reserves. Still, competition is intensifying. MetaMask is preparing to launch mUSD, Paxos has proposed USDH, and newer stablecoins like EURC and PYUSD are gaining traction. Regulatory clarity is also emerging—EU’s MiCA, the US GENIUS Act, and Asian frameworks in Singapore, Hong Kong, and Japan are paving the way for institutional adoption.

USDD Price Outlook: Can It Compete With USDT and USDC?

With a market cap around $450–$460 million, USDD represents only 0.3% of Tether’s scale. Liquidity has improved through the PSM, but still lags behind USDT and USDC, and collateral remains heavily exposed to TRX volatility. While its incentives may draw in early adopters, USDD’s long-term survival depends on deeper liquidity, diversified reserves, and wider integration into real-world economic use cases.

UK inflation rose to 3.1% in August: Oil prices drive up overall inflation, while core indicators have not accelerated accordingly for now
The Office for National Statistics of the UK announced on September 16 that in August 2026, the Consumer Price Index CPI rose by 3.1% year-on-year, higher than 2.9% in July; the index including the cost of own housing CPIH rose by 3.3% year-on-year, also higher than the previous month's 3.1%. Both indices increased by 0.5% month-on-month, compared to a month-on-month increase of 0.3% in August 2025. The main factor driving annual inflation upwards was transportation, particularly car fuel costs. At the same time, the core CPI remained at 2.6% year-on-year, and the core CPIH also stayed at 2.9%; there was no acceleration in the rise in service prices either. The overall index has rebounded significantly, but the pressure is mainly concentrated on goods and energy.

Google Survey: Scientists Save Nearly 7 Hours per Week Due to AI; After Efficiency Increases, Experiments Become a New Bottleneck
On September 15th, Google updated AI and Economy ATLAS, and announced a study in collaboration with Google DeepMind and MIT FutureTech. The study analyzed 2,600 professional AI models and surveyed over 600 scientists from the United States and the United Kingdom. The results showed that nearly half of the surveyed scientists used some form of AI daily, and they reported saving nearly 7 hours per week as a result. However, the study also found that with the rapid generation of more hypotheses, there was a backlog in physical experiments, clinical validation, and result verification. This conclusion is more comprehensive than the claim that "AI speeds up scientific research": while models can streamline some mental processes, they cannot automate...

OpenAI Testing "Sponsored Agents": Ads No Longer Just Wait for Clicks, but Require Answers in Conversations
On September 16th, OpenAI announced a new round of product updates for ChatGPT Ads, among which Sponsored Agents has drawn the most attention. After seeing the ads, users can proactively enter an agent dialogue sponsored by merchants and clearly labeled with relevant information. There, they can continue to ask questions about size, features, applicable scenarios, etc., before deciding whether to visit the merchants' websites. OpenAI also introduced an ad management plugin, suggestions for copywriting and images, as well as text adaptation features. Additionally, HubSpot and Shopify were integrated into the system. It is important to note that the sponsored agent feature is currently only being tested with some advertisers in the United States and has not yet been fully rolled out to users worldwide or all merchants.
