According to CoinMeta, Wu said that the Blockchain Association and the Innovation Crypto Committee have filed a preliminary injunction with the Sangamon County Circuit Court in Illinois, requesting the court to suspend the new 0.2% digital asset franchise tax that is set to take effect on January 1, 2027, during the course of the judicial proceedings. This tax law applies to crypto entities that are established in Illinois or are residents of the state and have total revenues exceeding $100,000. The two lobbying organizations have previously sued Illinois over this matter, arguing alongside the Digital Chamber of Commerce that the bill violates the federal Internet Tax Exemption Act as well as the due process and interstate trade provisions of the U.S. Constitution.
