According to CoinMeta, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) in the United States remained at 3.4% in August, with gasoline prices rising by 3.9%, while the core CPI fell to 2.4%. This data presents a complex situation for the Federal Reserve ahead of its next meeting. Although the core inflation rate remained unchanged, the gap between the increase in energy costs and the cooling of underlying price pressures is widening. The CPI rose 0.4% month-on-month, a significant acceleration from 0.1% in July. The core CPI has dropped from 2.5% to 2.4% over the past year. Gasoline prices rose to about $4.19 per gallon in August, up from $4.06 in July. Brent crude oil prices also stayed above $100, increasing the risk of continued high fuel costs in the fall. Despite some cooling of core inflation, overall inflation remains far above the target of 2% due to another rise in energy prices.
