BIS: AI may reduce the time to fix bank vulnerabilities to minutes
2026-09-12 16:53:18
According to CoinMeta, the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) warns in a new report that advanced artificial intelligence technologies could reduce the time it takes for banks to fix software vulnerabilities from weeks to just minutes. The report points out that banks need to shorten the time between identifying vulnerabilities, approving fixes, and implementing them. It also mentions that the Financial Conduct Authority in the UK has found that financial institutions are slow to respond to newly discovered vulnerabilities. The BIS recommends that financial institutions install emergency fixes during times outside of regular maintenance periods, even if this requires planned downtime. The report emphasizes that the role of management in rapid fixes is crucial, and it is essential to ensure that decision-making processes can quickly respond to emerging threats.
