Trezor Announces Revocation of Authorized Dealers Due to Ledger Discovering Spyware Implantation in Crypto Wallets
2026-10-14 00:16:26
According to CoinMeta, Trezor announced that it would discontinue its authorized dealer network, notifying partners that their authorization would end on January 1, 2027. This move was made after competitor Ledger initiated an investigation, which confirmed the presence of hidden spyware in cryptocurrency wallets sold through third-party stores. Trezor stated that this was a precautionary measure taken to more effectively vet partners. The security team at Ledger indicated that wallets sold by a dealer from Southeast Asia, Cryptobilis, contained unauthorized components that were capable of reading screens and decoding mnemonic phrases. Danny Sanders, the chief commercial officer of Trezor, shared a notification letter stating that dealers whose authorization is revoked will not be able to obtain new inventory, but they may continue to sell existing stock during Black Friday and holiday seasons. Trezor also mentioned that in the future, an updated legal framework and stricter rules regarding the origin, storage, and handling of devices will be implemented for remaining dealers.
