Electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft company Pivotal, supported by Larry Page, announced that Ken Karklin, who has served as CEO for over four years, has resigned this week. The company did not disclose more reasons for his departure; Mike Ross, a member of the board of directors and a senior executive in the aviation industry, will temporarily take over.
Helix has been on sale for two years.
This personnel adjustment occurred during the phase when Pivotal was pushing forward with the commercialization of lightweight personal aircraft. Two years ago, the company began selling its first lightweight electric personal aircraft, Helix. This model is designed for one person and has a starting price of about $200,000.
According to the company's introduction, the Helix does not require a pilot's license to fly. This product positioning sets it apart from traditional aircraft and also indicates that Pivotal is attempting to enter the personal flying market.
The company stated that the roadmap remains unchanged.
Ross stated in the declaration that the team, priorities, and product roadmap will remain stable during the transition period. He also mentioned that the company is continuing to advance the launch of the fourth-generation Helix aircraft.
In his resignation statement, Karklin stated that the lightweight eVTOL industry has moved beyond the prototype and promotional stages and has entered a real operational environment. The message the company wishes to convey through this is that the advancement of existing products will not be interrupted due to management changes.
BlackFly Entering emergency testing
In addition to Helix, Pivotal is also developing BlackFly aircraft for national defense and emergency response scenarios. The company stated that last month, BlackFly participated in an emergency response in North Carolina for the first time and arrived 20 minutes ahead of the ambulances that set off at the same time.
Pivotal indicates that BlackFly has accumulated over 10,000 flight times. This company is also one of the selected enterprises by the Federal Aviation Administration of the United States for the Integration Pilot Program program, which aims to expand the testing and application of such aircraft across the United States.
