Microsoft executive Ryan Roslansky will leave his position by the end of 2026. Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella announced this news in a memo on Thursday.

Nadella wrote: 'When Ryan left, the company was in a strong position.'

Like other tech giants, Microsoft, headquartered in Redmond, Washington, has been working hard to transform itself and take advantage of the rise of generative artificial intelligence. The heads of its gaming business, Phil Spencer, and the head of Office, Rajesh Jha, both left their positions this year, while the company's security chief, Charlie Bell, has become a freelance contributor.

Roslansky joined LinkedIn in 2009 as the product manager, at a time when LinkedIn was still an unlisted company. Prior to that, he held management positions at Yahoo and Glam Media. Microsoft acquired LinkedIn for $27 billion in 2016. In 2020, Roslansky succeeded Jeff Weiner as the CEO of LinkedIn. During Roslansky's tenure, the number of LinkedIn members grew from 700 million to 1.3 billion.

In 2025, Roslansky took on additional responsibilities for Microsoft's Office productivity software division. Earlier this year, Nadella appointed Roslansky and two other executives to jointly lead Microsoft 365 applications and the Copilot artificial intelligence platform, while LinkedIn, the Chief Operating Officer, Dan Shapero, became the CEO of this professional social networking platform.

Nadella mentioned the contributions made by Roslansky to Microsoft's unified Copilot application released last week.

With the help of Copilot, we are rapidly advancing our vision to create a brand-new operating system tailored for work, covering every model, every form of device, and every task. We are also ensuring that Office is fully integrated into Copilot, and vice versa! Over the past year, the team at Ryan has done critical work in integrating product, engineering, and design foundations, laying the groundwork for this next phase of progress.

In July, Microsoft disclosed that LinkedIn's annual revenue growth rate as of June had risen to 11%, higher than the less than 9% level of the same period last year. A few weeks ago, LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman announced plans to leave the Microsoft Board of Directors; he joined the board in 2017.

In a memo sent to employees, Roslansky stated that he was the first employee recruited by Weiner at LinkedIn, and has always been inspired by the progress made in artificial intelligence by Office.

“I know what I need to do to carry out the next phase of this work well: to work full-time in Redmond every day,” writes Roslansky, “but my family and I live in the Bay Area.”
