NVIDIA announced a new product on Wednesday that allows 7 of its Vera Rubin AI racks to be fitted into a single shipping container. This represents the company's latest attempt to extend its product line and provide complete systems for artificial intelligence computing.
NVIDIA stated that this product, named DSX Pod AI Factory, is roughly the size of a standard shipping container and weighs about 28,000 kilograms. The company said it is designed to be transported by truck on ordinary roads, and all the wiring and liquid cooling systems of Pod are assembled in the factory.
NVIDIA's Vice President of Supercomputing, Ian Buck, stated in a teleconference with reporters this week: "Once we arrive at the site, the only thing that needs to be done is to place it in its proper position, connect it to other containers, and then verify it through final burn-in tests."
According to the company, DSX Pod AI and factory will reduce the time required to start providing tokens services at a new AI data center from six months to just 14 days. NVIDIA states that this Pod is aimed at customers worldwide and may also help to address the deployment challenges faced by European customers.
NVIDIA has not announced the price of this system, but analysts say that the cost of a single Vera Rubin rack could exceed $7 million.
NVIDIA stated that DSX Pod is a reference design that will be shipped by its manufacturing partners. The company mentioned that the partners include Foxconn, Gigabyte, Lenovo, HPE, Quanta, and Hon Hai. NVIDIA expects delivery to begin in early 2027.
NVIDIA used to be a chip company, but now it provides customers with networking, storage, and other products required for data centers. Its AI systems have evolved from a single GPU chip, to servers equipped with 4 or 8 GPU, to entire rack units, and now they have developed into DSX Pod – a containerized building module that integrates multiple racks together.
NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang recently stated in a podcast: “The revenue we generate from products on a gigawatt scale has increased from about $18 billion per gigawatt to over $2 billion per gigawatt, and now it has surpassed $40 billion.” A gigawatt refers to the scale of data center infrastructure measured by power consumption. “My feeling is that this number will continue to rise.”
