Berlin, October 28th / PRNewswire / -- Appian (Nasdaq ticker: APPN) and PSI CRO announced today that the two parties have launched their first joint AI drive process orchestration solution. This new product can automate the identification and screening of clinical trial centers across different therapeutic areas, indications, and geographical regions.
AI and process orchestration are used for complex central filtering

Clinical trial center screening is a highly collaborative task that involves multiple stakeholders, a large amount of documentation, and activities that are carried out concurrently across different countries and regions. The new solution integrates the previously dispersed and largely manual steps into a single digital process, covering the entire process from project initiation to the subsequent center screening phase.
Appian indicates that its platform was rated by Gartner as the leader in 2026 for the Gartner ® Magic Quadrant ™ for Business Orchestration and Automation Technologies ( BOAT ). The Appian platform provided the foundation for this solution. This solution can identify and filter out the research centers that are most suitable for sponsors, thereby providing higher end-to-end visibility and accelerating the process of center selection.
This solution is not limited to task automation; it also connects people, data, systems, and AI through a single workflow that orchestrates end-to-end processes. It coordinates activities across teams and regions, and automatically handles information and documents. It is also responsible for routing and exception management, while providing real-time insights into process performance.
This solution is integrated with the core system and data warehouse of PSI, as well as the AI and process intelligence capabilities of Appian. Both parties stated that this integration scheme establishes a scalable foundation for faster decision-making, higher consistency, and continuous improvement.
The starting point of a long-term platform strategy
This central screening solution puts the platform vision of PSI into practice. It combines PSI's focus on predictable clinical trial delivery, as well as Appian's process automation and AI's capabilities.
PSI The person in charge of process improvement, Kirill Soldatov, stated: "This clinical trial center screening solution driven by AI is an important step in our rethinking and reconnection of operational processes. PSI is known for its ability to deliver complex clinical trials on time. By introducing automation, AI capabilities, and process orchestration into the existing workflow, we aim to establish a more interconnected operational model that will lay a scalable foundation for more predictable, accurate, and timely center screenings worldwide. The goal is to further reduce or eliminate delays in center enrollment and patient enrollment."
Appian is responsible for DACH and the regional vice president of Eastern Europe. Alexander Motie stated: "This initial project demonstrates the value that can be created when AI is integrated into business processes. This solution helps PSI to process information more quickly through automation and manage processes with greater transparency through orchestration. Through strategic cooperation with PSI, we hope to establish a flexible and long-term foundation for further automation and innovation."
With the official launch of the first solution, PSI and Appian will use this as a basis to evaluate more use cases, and extend the process orchestration driven by AI to the entire clinical trial lifecycle. The goal of both parties is to shorten the clinical research cycle and improve predictability, thereby bringing new products to market more quickly and reducing costs for consumers.
