Supplementary financial information

Compared with the same period last year, the consolidated gross margin in the third quarter increased by 420 basis points to 63.3%, and the gross margins of all divisions improved. The rise in the consolidated gross margin is mainly attributed to a favorable business structure, lower product costs, and a refund of approximately $33 million in tariffs that were previously paid.

Total operating expenses in the third quarter were $646 million, a year-on-year increase of 10%. Research and development expenses increased by 9%, mainly driven by personnel-related costs. Selling, general, and administrative expenses increased by 10%, primarily due to personnel-related costs and advertising expenses.

The effective tax rate in the third quarter was 18.1%, lower than 21.2% in the same period of the previous year. The decrease in the tax rate is mainly due to the increased expected deductions under certain provisions of the U.S. tax law that were passed in 2025 and took effect in 2026.

In the third quarter of 2026, the company generated cash flows from operating activities amounting to $394 million, with free cash flows at $293 million. The company paid out quarterly dividends of $202 million and repurchased $41 million of its own shares during this quarter. As of September 26, 2026, there was approximately $407 million remaining within the $500 million share repurchase plan authorized until December 2028. At the end of the quarter, the company held approximately $4.1 billion in cash and marketable securities.

Non-GAAP Financial Information

To complement the financial results presented under GAAP, this press release includes the following non-GAAP financial indicators as defined by the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission: pro, forma effective tax rate, pro, forma net profit (earnings per share), and free cash flow. These non-GAAP indicators are not based on any comprehensive accounting rules or principles and should not be considered as a substitute for or superior to the GAAP financial indicators. Moreover, they may differ from the non-GAAP indicators used by other companies, which limits their comparability with those firms. Management believes that providing an operational perspective consistent with the way the company is managed enhances transparency regarding the company's operating results, as described in the various categories below.

The following table provides the adjustments between GAAP and non-GAAP indicators.

pro forma Effective tax rate

The company's income tax expense is occasionally affected by discrete tax items that are unrelated to the current period's earnings. Therefore, management believes that the effective tax rate and income tax provision prior to the impact of such discrete tax items are important indicators to help investors make consistent comparisons across periods. No such discrete tax items were identified in 2026 and in the first three quarters of 2025.

pro forma Net Profit (Earnings Per Share)

Management believes that the net profit (earnings per share) before excluding foreign exchange gains or losses and certain discrete income tax items mentioned above is an important indicator to help investors make consistent comparisons across periods.

Free Cash Flow

Management believes that free cash flow is an important liquidity indicator, as it represents the amount of cash generated from operating activities that can be used for investment. It is defined as operating cash flow minus capital expenditures on property and equipment. Management feels that excluding expenditures on property and equipment procurement helps to better understand the potential trends in the company's operations and makes comparisons of the company's performance across different periods more accurate. This indicator may also be useful to investors, but it should not be considered in isolation, as it is not a cash flow indicator that can be used for discretionary spending. The most comparable GAAP indicator is the net cash generated from operating activities.

Forward-looking financial indicators

The forward-looking indicators in our 2026 guidance include certain economic assumptions, such as foreign exchange rates and tariffs. These factors are volatile and can change rapidly in either a favorable or unfavorable direction.

The forward-looking financial indicators provided in the 2026 guidelines mentioned above do not take into account foreign exchange gains and losses, certain discrete tax items, or any other potential future net impacts that may be identified as pro forma adjustments when calculating the aforementioned non-GAAP indicators.

Due to the high volatility and low visibility of non-operating foreign exchange gains and losses and their related tax impacts, it is not possible to reasonably estimate the expected impact of foreign exchange gains and losses on a forward-looking basis. After deducting tax impacts, the effect of foreign exchange gains and losses on diluted earnings per share was $0.04 per share over the 39 weeks ending September 26, 2026.

At present, management is unable to determine whether there will be significant discrete tax items in the fiscal year 2026, nor can they estimate the impact of such items, or predict the impact of any other events that may be taken into consideration when calculating non-GAAP financial indicators.
