Healthcare Triangle signs a memorandum of understanding, plans to introduce the AI humanoid nursing robot into North American hospitals

HCTI signed a memorandum of understanding that outlines plans to establish a joint venture in North America. The proposed joint venture will deploy humanoid robots to assist patients with toileting and hygiene care, thereby reducing the physical burden on the nursing team while maintaining the dignity of the patients.

Pleasanton, California, September 30, 2026 / PRNewswire / -- Medical information technology company Healthcare Triangle, Inc (Nasdaq: HCTI, referred to as “HCTI”) announced today that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with Malaysian company AI World Sdn, Bhd (referred to as “AI World”). AI World specializes in information technology, artificial intelligence, and humanoid robots. The two parties intend to establish a joint venture to introduce humanoid care robots with AI capabilities into hospitals and clinical settings across North America.

According to this memorandum of understanding, both parties intend to establish a new joint venture company, which will hold the intellectual property rights and distribution rights for these robots in North America. HCTI is expected to hold 70% of the equity in the joint venture company, while AI World will hold 30%.

HCTI indicates that, after obtaining the necessary approvals and applicable regulatory permits, they will leverage their network of relationships with over 140 hospitals established over the years to bring these robots to market.

According to estimates by the World Health Organization ( WHO ), by 2030, there will be a shortage of 4.5 million nurses globally; medical institutions are adopting automated methods to reduce heavy physical work and administrative burnout.

These robots are designed as AI nursing assistants, used to assist patients with toileting as well as related cleaning and hygiene care. These tasks are among the most physically demanding and time-consuming in inpatient nursing, and they are also some of the most sensitive aspects of patient care. The company states that by performing these tasks under the supervision of clinical staff, this technology aims to give nurses more time to directly care for patients, reduce the risk of injury to nursing staff, and support continuous and dignified hygiene care.

In the North American market targeted by HCTI and AI World, Grand View Research estimates that robot nursing assistants will account for approximately 39% of the global market, which is around $1.5 billion, by 2025, equivalent to about $585 million. The global market is expected to grow to around $4.4 billion by 2033, with a compound annual growth rate of 14.7%. One of the factors supporting this demand growth is the persistent shortage of nursing labor in the United States: the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services (Health Resources and Services Administration) predicts that the shortage of registered nurses will reach 8% by 2028.

How is the joint venture expected to operate?

  • HCTI is expected to take the lead in raising funds for this joint venture project. The sources of funding will include various channels. The company will also be responsible for manufacturing arrangements, sales and distribution, as well as promoting these robots through its existing network of hospitals and medical service providers.
  • AI World is expected to provide technical expertise, technology transfer, and manufacturing support to ensure that the robots are manufactured in accordance with the specifications and quality standards of AI World, while also offering continuous engineering and software support.
  • Patient safety is of the highest priority. Both parties plan to seek the necessary regulatory approvals and conduct clinical validation before any commercial launch, including pilot deployments with hospital clients. Privacy and data security, in compliance with HIPAA requirements, will be integrated into the design of this project.

Healthcare Triangle Founder Suresh Venkatachari stated: "Hospitals are facing significant pressures due to a shortage of staff and burnout among clinicians, with toileting and hygiene care being a heavy burden among these issues. We intend to work together with AI World to bring a practical solution empowered by AI to the clinicians and patients we have served. Our partnership with hospitals allows us to carry out the pilot and deployment of this technology in a responsible manner, placing patient dignity and safety at the core."

Except for certain provisions (including exclusivity and confidentiality), this Memorandum of Understanding is not binding. The establishment of the joint venture is subject to a number of conditions, including due diligence, negotiation and signing of a formal agreement, approval by the board of directors and other necessary parties, as well as applicable regulatory permits. Both parties expect to begin negotiations on the formal agreement in the coming months. However, there is no guarantee that a formal agreement can ultimately be reached, or that the joint venture and related robots will be successfully developed, approved, or commercialized.
